Ogun state government launches 'ARAYA' community health insurance scheme

Ogun State Government  has launched its community health programme, ‘Araya’ for the Ogun West Senatorial District held in Yewa South Local Government Area, Ilaro with a charge to the people and residents of the area to take advantage of the facility to improve on their health and support government at ensuring the success of the Health Insurance Scheme.

The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi said the launch of the programme was a fulfillment of the current administration’s electoral promise of delivering qualitative health service delivery to the people.
Amosun explained that the scale up programme would take care of children under five years and indigent pregnant women who belonged to the vulnerable group in the society.

“The scale up Programme of the Araya scheme being launched today in Yewa land is meant to give fillip to the affordable and efficient health care service delivery so as to take affordable health care to the door step of our people, particularly the grass root people”, he stated.

Earlier in his welcome Address, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye said the pilot scheme of the programme launched in 2014 by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun was aimed at giving priority the well-being of the residents in the State.

Ipaye noted that government had provided equipment and human resources needed to make the project a success notwithstanding the present global economic recession, stressing that accredited health management officials were available at the Primary Health Centres and other designated places for registration to ensure easy access to qualitative health care services in the five Local Government areas in the Senatorial District.

He applauded the State House of Assembly for its continuous support especially at ensuring the domestication of the National Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the State to further improve the health care service to the citizenry.

In his remarks, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle lauded the government for the launch of the scheme and enjoined all the residents of the Senatorial District to immediately register to benefit from the Community health programme.

In their separate contributions, Senator (Mrs) Iyabo Anisulowo and the State Commissioner for Forestry, Chief Kolawole Lawal said that the scheme would help reduce child and mother mortality and thereby promoting the overall wellbeing of the people.
