Wizkid lost Starboy name to American singer Weekend, Nigerians react

This issue cropped up when Wizkid announced a new song with Drake, via Twitter, and then, The Weeknd also tweeted the name, and announced the release date of his next full-length project titled “Starboy”. The album which will be made available globally on November 25, 2016.

6god x Real Starboy about to school everybody!! πŸŒŠπŸŒŠπŸŒŠπŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Meanwhile, Nigerians didn't find this funny at all as they pounce on the US singer, for claiming what truly belongs to Wizkid.

For denial, people are still holding to on the fact that Wizkid is their only Starboy. To them the Weeknd can never be the one true Starboy. Never mind that he has a bigger marketing budget than Wizkid, has a greater fanbase, and is signed to a major label. He is still isn’t Starboy. See reactions below....

Star boy is just an album's name. It will pass. Weeknd will drop another album.

Wizkid Star boy the name, the brand stays forever

Comparing The Weeknd to Wizkid is an insult to music generally.

Wizkid is a successful music artiste.
The Weeknd is music itself.

We love wizkid.

Pls don't compare him to the weeknd abeg. Don't.

Wizkid is our very own, we can't support foreign acts over our own home boy but Weeknd didn't steal his stage name. Get the difference.

I really want someone to explain how the weeknd stole wizkid's brand name ?

Starboy has been existing even before they thought of using it

All this Weeknd and WizKid talk

All I know is WizKid will shut down Brooklyn's Barclay's Center and Teslim Balogun Stadium

Weeknd no fit πŸ˜€
