DMB exclusive: "For VP Osinbajo and I to have had a full secondary education in igbobi means some ideas of alma mata will be in both of us" – Actor Yomi Fabiyi

In this exclusive phone interview with DMB, the popular award winning Yoruba actor and film producer, Yomi Fabiyi talks about his background, his challenges and his next project except...

Can we meet you sir

My names are Abayomi Fabiyi, born and brought up in Somolu area in Lagos State. I attended Odunlade Primary School and Igbobi College, Yaba. Born a Muslim but raised a Christian

'Cut in'.... "Born a Muslim but raised a Christian"? Are you saying your parents later change from being a Muslim to a Christian?

Exactly, they got converted

What was your growing up like?

I grew up in a very rough, rough vicinity but we had more attention on our academics and church. Cut in....

Your parent must have been strict to some extent for you to have all your attentions on academic and church?

Smiles!....well, kind of, it actually helped me academically and my general approach to life

For you to have attended the same secondary school as VP Osinbajo, how does that make you feel?

It is an honour. And of course it is something to be proud of. He was a Senior Prefect during his time and I was a perfect in my set too. Though he is a far far senior but for both of us to have had a full secondary education in Igbobi means some ideas of the alma mata will be in both of us. He is not the only one. BRF, the Ibrus and many proud Nigerians attended Igbobi which am happy for.

At one point, you were married to a white woman, how true is this?

It is not a past tense, we are still married. I only announce intention to divorce because someone had known and before they sell a wrong notion and when I have no skeleton in my cupboard because hiding any details around the divorce can be misconstrued.

Are you currently married?

Yes

When did you start acting?

I started acting fully in 2002

What would you say is your greatest achievement in your career?

Having honest fans who show me love, loyalty and support everyday. It is priceless.

What is your greatest challenge in this career?

Finance to shoot my desired and dream project.

What were the challenges you faced when you started this career and how did you overcome it?

Challenges from acceptance and courage to stand for your dream as most male are redirected to any field by their bosses.

Do you have any other source of income apart from this acting?

I do Master of Ceremony(MC)

Can some one really fly on this career without mixing it with other jobs?

It depends on the stage the artist is. But at an advance stage, it can be an Herculean task. Only few can muddle through.

Where do you get your inspirations from when writing stories?

I first and foremost discovered myself and had some tutelage on where I think I have latent and passion for in movies. Inspiration of course from all angles.

Which project are you currently working on?

Classroom Love.

Can you explain this "I write my stories, do screen play alone, and being producing for over 12years on top level with huge fans appeal"?

It's a simple way to say I am the brain behind all my movies my fans have been enjoying for the past 12years that I have been producing.

How do you relax?

I watch news, football or sometimes sleep

What message do you have for your fans especially the upcoming ones?

Upcoming fans, hmmm. I will only say they are welcome on board anytime because I love them before now. My fans and I are cult.
