WhatsApp Will Now Label Forwarded Message

WhatsApp, the messaging app, has announced a new feature that will label messages - text, images audio and video - that are forwarded.
In a blog post sent to Ponyter, WhatsApp said, “This extra context will help make one-on-one and group chats easier to follow.” It will also help you determine if your friend or relative wrote the message they sent or if it originally came from someone else.

Prior to its launch, the feature has undergone beta testing in India - the largest market of the platform, with over 200 million users.
Following from the ordeal the parent company, Facebook, is facing, this update is the latest step WhatsApp has taken to address its fake news problem, including offering cash rewards for researchers studying misinformation spread through the app, and wrangling local law enforcement and fact-checking organisations to fight the fake news propagated through the app, the verge reported.
In Nigeria, a lot of fake news and misinformation are being shared through the platform. An apposite case is the audio that was circulated after the unfortunate oil tanker explosion on Lagos-Ibadan expressway at Berger in Lagos. Also, the 'bath with salt' campaign during the Ebola breakout.
This is definitely a step in the right direction. However, the update is not yet available  in Nigeria.
