Text: Proverbs 4 vs. 23, Mathew 7 vs. 15-20, 2Corithians 10 vs. 5, Jeremiah 17 vs. 9-10

Four weeks ago, my heart (vineyard) was attacked by some of the criminals we are expatiating in this short but powerful article. Today, I thank God that my vineyard (heart) is no longer their habitat. They have been arrested by the “FBI of heaven’’. Very soon they will be charge to court room of the almighty and then sentence to the lake of fire.

Read this article with rapt attention!

Of all the organs in the human body, one of the most complex and delicate of them all is the heart. “Diligence they say connotes alertness”. Even in spiritual matters, the heart of a man is considered as a very of powerful chamber where decisions that affect that life are made before they are executed in the outer world. No wonder the bible said we should guide our heart with diligence for out of it are issues of life (Proverbs 4 vs. 23). This topic “Criminals in the Vineyard” is an eye opener in to one of the destructive missions the Devils carries out in people’s heart.

The heart of a man is like a vineyard where different useful plants are cultivated to produce fruits that are beneficiary to the owner of the vineyard and others.  Just like there are good and fruitful plants in a garden, so there are also harmful plants (weed and thorns) which can choke out the plants if not carefully pruned. Any fruit (product) that is coming from the vineyard of your heart which is harmful and poisonous is a criminal that must be rooted out of your hearts. When the heart is corrupt the life and conduct will be corrupt. When the heart is clean the life will be clean and the fruit good (Mathew 7 vs. 15-20).

A vineyard is a plantation of grape bearing vines, grown mainly for wine making, but also resins, table grapes and non- alcoholic grape. From the above definition of vineyard, we can see that alcoholic plants are not grown in the vineyard and are weeds which disrupt the growth of other useful plants in the vineyard. Any alcoholic plant found in the vineyard is a criminal in that vineyard. Any fruit other than the fruits of spirit growing in your heart is a criminal you must chased out.

It is a lamentable tragedy that our hearts which was originally design by God to be a vineyard where the fruits of the spirit are cultivated, has been taken over by these spiritual criminals. It is a pity that spiritual thieves have taken over the garden of our hearts and have vandalized it.  A heart occupied by strange things will run into disaster and evil. When the heart of a man is being conquered and captured by these spiritual criminals, such heart will become a synagogue of darkness. It will be converted into a habitation of cruelty.

When these criminals took over the hearts of men in Genesis 6, the bible recorded that every imagination and thoughts of their hearts was wickedness and evil continually (Genesis 6 vs. 5). Criminals are very stubborn and don’t give up easily.

They do whatever is in their power to make sure they steal the treasures of that heart. Any thoughts that creeps into your heart, any mind activity not brought to the obedience of Christ as in 2Corithians 10 vs. 5 is a criminal that must be arrested and charge to court.

Two people are after our heart; God and Satan. As a believer, your heart should be the dwelling place of God (Ephesians 3 vs. 17). If God is in charge of your vineyard (heart), it will be very difficult for these spiritual criminals to invade. The irony is that, the devil is the one dictating over the affairs of many believers hearts.

Our hearts is a very priceless entity and that’s why the devil has threatened to vandalized it. He knows that if he controls the activities of the hearts, it will be very difficult for such heart to produce the spiritual vines God desires. The bible described the heart as a mysterious chamber and a deceitful paradise. The owner may appear holy and sane but the inner chamber is corrupt and full of evil vices. Thus it is written, only God can know the heart and judge whether it is right and in spiritual order (Jeremiah 17 vs. 9-10).

A gardener, who is not careful to tend his or her garden, can allow harmful weeds, and even poisonous plants to grow amongst good vegetation. It is true that, ‘’it’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart’’ (Mathew 15 vs. 11). But if you fail to guide the gateway to your heart (eyes and ears), these evil criminals will pass through those gateway and influence the decisions of your heart. Sister Tunmike Olatilewa wrote “the eyes and ears as gateway to the heart are means through which things we hear and things we see gain entrance into our hearts”.

Who are the Criminals in the Vineyard?

The criminals in the vineyard are those ungodly weeds (walks of the flesh) in our lives that must not be allowed to “take root” and bear fruits in our lives.

The bible said “for from within, out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Other criminals that break into our vineyard are slandering, curse, jealousy, discord, anger, envy, and lie, Immoralities, foolishness, hatred, worry, unbelief, partiality, idolatry, gossip, selfishness, lust, dishonest, wrath, strife, fear, seditions, heresies, emulations etc.

The mission of these Spiritual Criminals

The devil knows that God cannot dwell in a dirty habitat (Habakkuk 1 vs. 13). The bible made us to understand that our heart is the dwelling place of God (Ephesians 3 vs. 17). The devil is very clever, he will sow evil seeds in the heart of a man and he does this through the two gateways I earlier mentioned (eyes and ears). The purpose of sowing these evil seeds is to corrupt the heart and make it a dangerous habitat for the Holy Spirit of God.

These criminals can make the sacrifices of your heart unacceptable before God. They can cause sorrow and worry in someone’s life. You find it hard to obey the commands of God if these strange criminals are residing in your heart.

Weeds are like sin; they don’t take any nurturing or care to grow. The fruits of the spirit are the good vegetation but if the number of the walks of flesh (weed) outnumbers it, they will be overtaken and their roots will be yanked. These criminals are in your heart to ruin, kill, affect and destroy it. They want to make sure that you are totally separated from God; both here on earth and in eternity.

What you sow is what you reap. If you sow the word of God in the vineyard (heart), the fruits of the spirit will be harvested in abundance. We won’t struggle to live in the spirit if we constantly renew our mind with the word of God. The word of God is like a fertilizer, fertilizer is like food to plants. Without food the plants become weak and the vineyard becomes a valley of dead plants. All those ungodly movies and programs we watched with our eyes are the satanic fertilizers that energize those criminals in our hearts. They are seeds that grow into full time criminals and vandalize our hearts.

It is an outstanding fact that the fruits of the spirit can only grow in the vineyard (heart) of a man that is walking in the spirit. Consistence pruning of our hearts with the word of God helps us to maintain a healthy, and fruit bearing ability. Holiness is the spiritual herbicides commonly used to kill these unwanted plants. Sometimes, it is difficult to tell the difference between some weeds and good plants. For example, the devil may give you a satanic suggestion that look harmless but very destructive. If you take such evil advice from him, you will become a captive under his ruthless reign.

Why should God take charge?

Only God can put together the right elements in our hearts to bring forth what we want.  Jesus said “I am the true vine, and my father is the husbandman” (John 15 vs. 1).
It is high time we arrest these criminals and charge them to the court of the almighty. They and their cohorts must leave the vineyard of our hearts.

“Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you”

When you clean up your heart fill it up with the word of God and you will experience a harvest of the fruits of the spirit.

How to get rid of these criminals

1. First of all, you have to surrender that heart to Jesus. Whatever is in the custody of God cannot be vandalize by any bastard demon.

2. Ask God to create in you a new heart. The psalmist cried out to God (Psalm 51 vs. 10). “Create in me a new heart, O Lord, and renew a right spirit within me”.

3. Make sure you renew your mind daily with the word of God.

4. Avoid habitats that breed evil habitat. All those ungodly movies, soap operas, pictures you feed on must stop.

5. Holiness within and without is the best spiritual herbicides that can get rid of these spiritual weed living in our vineyard.

God bless you!
